There was widespread anger and disbelief in the Newry area after it emerged that Grounded Café sold a cup of coffee for under £4.
The unsuspecting victim Hollie Campbell who popped in to Grounded for a coffee had already took out a £10 note to pay for her coffee but was shocked when the staff member gave her back £6.01 causing a mild stroke and acute shock.
We caught up with Ms Campbell who was recovering at home after a short stay in hospital and she told Newry Spud:
“I went in to Grounded as I do most days for my usual cup of coffee, when I went to pay for my beverage I was charged under £4 and it really took me off guard, it literally floored me and I’m still not over it to be honest.”
We spoke to a Grounded spokesperson who explained what happened he told Newry Spud:
“We unreservedly apologise to Ms Campbell for the unfortunate incident that brought on a slight stroke and a short hospital stay. Basically, we had a new staff member who accidentally put in the wrong price for the coffee resulting in the desperate events that followed. We would like to apologise for the confusion caused and we will make sure it will never happen again, the young staff member who made the error has been fired and is now working in McCooey’s.”
