A graffiti sectarian war has broken out in Newry this week.

After Loyalist intellectual and victim’s campaigner Willie Frazer pointed out that the Newry, Mourne & Down District Council had bi-lingual road signs welcoming visitors to the district the Irish language was promptly painted over.

However, Newry Spud can now reveal that someone has now retaliated and painted over the English language on the road signs causing tensions within the area.

A member of the IRP (Irish Republican Painters) told Newry Spud:

“We had to retaliate against the graffiti attack on our language. Even though not one of us can understand Irish or speak a word of it.”

The LPV (Loyalists Painters Volunteers) told us:

“This foreign language is an affront to our culture. All Hail Willie Frazer.”

The PSNI are calling for calm at this juncture.
