An extraordinary meeting of the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has come to a novel yet controversial solution to the St Patrick’s Day ‘Tri-colour’ controversy we can reveal.

With the news that the council have allegedly asked bands participating in the parade not to fly the Irish flag there was a recent outcry by local Republicans.

A Council spokesman told Newry Spud:

“We spoke about flying the St Patrick’s flag but it looks a lot like the St George’s flag and the Ulster flag and we couldn’t read another Facebook post from Comrade Stephen Murney.

We’re going to fly the flag of the Islamic State (ISIS) to show our openness to our Muslim brothers and sisters in the community. Allah akbar.”
