In a move thought to be significant for community relations the residents of Shandon Park are to rename the estate to Páirc Uí Seandún and also hold weekly Irish language classes it has been revealed.

Shandon Park is often seen with Union flags and Loyalist symbols on lamp posts but have seemingly had a change of heart and now will focus solely on the Irish medium of education with the announcement that they will open a new Bunscoil (Irish language school) for children aged between 4-12.

A Shandon Park resident and spokesman Billy Ferguson or Liam Mac Fheárghus as he now insists on being called told Newry Spud:

“We cannot wait to start this transitional period of the Irish language. We hope it will be another step forward in community relations in the area. Táimid ag tnúth le bheith ag obair lenár gcomharsana Caitliceacha.”
