A retired GAA referee has been sensationally drafted into the FIFA World Cup to take charge of this evening’s England v Tunisia game.

Damian ‘Tiger’ McCullough who has long since hung up his whistle in favour of the commentators microphone got the call last night from Italian referee boss Pierluigi Collina.

McCullough told Newry Spud:

“To say I’m surprised to get this gig is an understatement. I refereed Gaelic football games for years and even then I hadn’t a notion what I was doing.

If the truth were to be towl I don’t even know the rules of soccer. But if I could keep the Hallions of south Armagh in line on a pitch I’ll have no problem with Vardy and Sterling.”
