Newry, Mourne & Down District Council has passed a motion making Polish the official language of Newry we can reveal.
A recent census in the area showed that 77% of the population came from Eastern Europe and would prefer Polish to be spoken in the city.
Gavin Malone from the Council told Newry Spud:
“We are now going to roll out mandatory Polish classes in all the local primary and secondary schools. Adults too will have to learn Polish as a course of necessity. We hope that all road signs and shop names will be in Polish by October 2021.”
