“An outrageous waste of tax payer’s money” is how a new oil painting of SDLP Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick has been described by politicians and voters alike.
The oil painting that Councillor Fitzpatrick commissioned at the tax payers expense will hang over the council chamber a spokesman has confirmed.
The painting that was done by famous German artist Andreas Gursky cost a whopping £156,000 and is said to be the most expensive pieces of art ever commissioned by a council on the island of Ireland.
Councillor Fitzpatrick spoke to Newry Spud from Scissors hairdressers where she was sitting for her daily wash and set and she had this to say about the painting:
“I was a bit pissed off seeing all the old men that decorate the walls of the council. So, I just went and ordered the painting for the craic. I never imagined that it would cost the astronomical figure it ended up but, that’s life lol.”
