Newry, Mourne & Down Council have unanimously approved moving ahead with the demolition of O’Neill Avenue to make way for Europe’s largest ever Syrian refugee resettlement camp we can reveal.

Workers have already begun transforming the decrepit old Avenue into what will soon be home to 50,000 Syrian refugees living in 5,000 tents.

The new ‘O’Neill Avenue Tent City’ will also have 50 portable toilets, five mosques and a special tent for free healthcare, plus an outdoor petting zoo for the children.
