The Chief Executive of the Newry, Mourne & Down District Council Mrs Marie Ward has said the building of the new Newry Civic Centre must go ahead despite the council’s services falling apart at the seams we can report.
While the thought of spending £25 million on a civic centre is lovely and all the mere fact our bin men can’t get overtime suggests not all is well in the council.
One bin man Cathal O’Wheelie told us:
“Our lorry broke down yesterday and we were told that the residents of Dromalane’s Quayside Close area would just have to either wait or empty their bins themselves.
But it’s grand, they can just wait and we won’t be getting any overtime but let’s spend twenty odd million on a vanity project and fuck the rest of us. I hope Mrs Ward pays herself overtime though. Times are hard and all.”
