Newry has been placed firmly on the map last night when local actor and creator of ‘Taxi Jo’ won an Oscar for ‘Best New Comedy’ we can reveal.
Gino Lynch who already comes from an Irish acting family dynasty was in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to pick up the gong.
Gino told Newry Spud:
“Fuck bah, I had no idea I would have actually won the yoke. When I heard my name being announced I near had a stroke. I made a speech thanking all those people from Newry who inspired me like Banjo Bannon, Charlie Casey and of course Lofty Larkin who made it all possible.
I would like to thank all our fans on Facebook from Newry too bah; we will be having a lock of drinks on Friday to celebrate in Madden’s from around 7 in the morning.”
It is thought the Council are to put on a welcome home party for Lynch on Thursday when he returns to Ireland to finish his new feature length movie “Newry Taxi Wars: Taxi Jo versus Tommy Lambe.”
