The Mall in Newry will be closed on Saturday from 9am until 7pm for the annual wash of Barcroft, residents the Council have confirmed.
The annual ‘Canal Wash’ is a much anticipated day for the locals and is expected to see 4,623 men, women and children from the ghetto of Barcroft washed. It has been described as ‘Ireland’s biggest ever community bath.’
Local Barcroft resident Moo Kavanagh told Newry Spud:
“This is the yearly highlight of the Barcroft area. We’d like to thank Around-A-Pound for giving us the 6,000 bars of soap. We’d also like to appeal to anyone with towels and deodorant to come down and help us out.”
