The Newry Personality of The Year Awards was cancelled today due to not being able to find enough people with a personality to take part.

The backward and out of touch Council of the city are not going ahead with the planned Gala event to be held in the Canal Court Hotel next Saturday.

Instead the Council officers are to split the money between them and go to New York for a fortnight.

One Newry personality Tony ‘Riser’ Smith said he was devastated about the cancellation and he told us:

“I was odds on with Boyle’s bookmakers to win the event and had a few hundred quid on myself. I don’t see why I should lose out on the title and the sponsorship money because most of the folk in this dump have no sense of humour or personalities. Anyway, Riser friends.”

Newry Spud has offered to sponsor the event in an unofficial capacity, if you would like a ticket for the event they are available from McCooey’s Cafe on Monaghan Street priced at £10, there will be a finger buffet upstairs in the Armagh-Down pub next Saturday night from 8pm.
