A young local man is taking a case against the Newry Job Centre to the European Court of Human Rights he has told Newry spud today.
Lee Kelly said he is taking the legal action after his Jobseekers Allowance was underpaid by £1.39p on Thursday in what he called a ‘shocking & hurtful’ case of discrimination.
Mr Kelly who is ‘in between’ jobs at the moment and who was sent to Daisy Hill hospital by the Job Centre for an X-Ray to see if there was any work in him said he will not rest until he is ‘fully compensated’ and an apology is given to him and his family for ‘undue distress’.
Kelly told Newry Spud:
“I looked at my bank balance on Thursday morning and I nearly fell over with shock when I noticed £1.39p was missing from the usual fortnightly payment. I immediately got onto my new iPhone while I was in a local restaurant having a meal and called the Job Centre to complain.
They shrugged it off as if it was no big deal. I don’t know what I will do for the next fortnight to make ends meet now. It’s been a most distressful time.”
