There was shock and wonder this week as various fast food outlets have reported that Newry folk asked correctly for a ‘Burger’ and not a ‘Borger’ we can reveal.
In what is an epidemic and crime against proper English, the natives of Newry seem to not be able to pronounce the word for the sandwich consisting of ground meat or chicken placed inside a sliced bread roll.
One fast food outlet told Newry Spud:
“When people began to ask for a ‘Burger’ it took us quite a while to understand what they wanted. We are so used to Newry natives saying ‘Borger’ so while we welcome the newly acquired gift of language we would ask the natives to bear with us while we get used to them using it.”
