Newry folks rejoiced today as Newry City Centre has been awarded the coveted title of Area of Outstanding Beauty.
The decision comes after continual discoveries of new and previously unknown species of wildlife in the nearby Buttercrane Shopping Centre over the last 3 years, and the flourishing green moss around the mall wall.
“We completed the survey last month and are very happy with the decision we’ve made. We hope the city will benefit as a whole, especially now that absolutely no more developments are allowed in the city centre.” said Dan Smyth, regional director of the Newry Chamber of Commerce.
Now that future developments can be officially halted Newry, Mourne and Down District Council have indicated that more money will be able to flow out of the town in order to modernise and develop the surrounding areas such as Warrenpoint and Rostrevor.
