Going to Cullyhanna is like stepping into the TV show ‘Peaky Blinders’ we can reveal.
The TV show set in 1900’s Birmingham was a massive hit starring Cillian Murphy as head of the Blinders Tommy Shelby.
But it has been revealed that a visit to south Armagh’s Cullyhanna is like walking onto the set of the post-World War 1 inspired drama with the people in the village still ‘stuck’ in the past and dressing in 1900’s attire.
One tourist who accidentally stumbled into Cullyhanna told Newry Spud:
“I was looking everywhere for Tommy & Arthur Shelby when I got off the bus in Cullyhanna, the people are very rough and backward and the village is quite quaint but in a sinister backward type of way.
We went into one shop and they were selling sweets by the quarter and butter by the ounce. It was like being transported back to the early 1900’s, it really was remarkable.”
Nobody from Cullyhanna was available to comment before this story went online as we are still waiting for a reply via telegram.
