Newry’s Margaret Square is to be renamed as ‘Lofty Larkin Boulevard’ we can reveal.
The Newry, Mourne & Down District Council made the decision last night after a special meeting was called.
Margaret Square where Lofty often sat and called you a ‘Rubber Head’ was the subject of a massive petition for the renaming started by Larkin’s lifelong friend Pat ‘Sam’ McGinn from Camlough.
McGinn known for being the only man in Ireland who when he opens his mouth you know it’s a lie coming out told Newry Spud:
“It’s time we got rid of these old Victorian names of our streets and immortalise living legends like Lofty. I was talking to Lofty and he agrees that a street in his name is long overdue. Now I am just waiting for the main street in Camlough to be renamed to the ‘Pat McGinn Avenue’.”
