The Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang County, South Korea took an embarrassing turn today when the Killeavy GAA Club were turned away after what they are calling ‘a dreadful miscommunication’.
The sport of ‘Curling’ is one of the major events at the Winter Olympics but it seems that a Killeavy GAA official thought they were invited to play ‘Hurling’ in what caused the hilarious mix-up.
We spoke with player Connor Hannaway and Killeavy Ambassador/Patron Saint Steven McDonnell from Pyeongchang and they told us:
“To say we’re embarrassed after flying out a full team of hurlers in what we thought would be an historic first Hurling Championship outside of Ireland is an understatement. Heads will roll when we get home.”
