Sotheby’s Auction House is a well-respected entity that auctions off anything from diamonds, fine wines and property. An auction of a different kind took place recently. Rights to SDLP Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick’s hairstyling secrets were auctioned off and brought in a record amount of cash.
One Sotheby’s spokesperson told Newry Spud:
“This is very out of the ordinary. We are focused primarily on more traditional items but this was one request that we simply could not pass up. Gillian Fitzpatrick’s non-move hairstyle is a south Down icon in its own right. In fact it’s gone beyond iconic status.”
The winning bidder thought to be a wife of a Russian multi-millionaire told us:
“The price tag just kept going up. I told my husband that I would not spend over £650,000 for it. But Gillian was sitting up there on stage. I kept looking at her hair, live and in person, and knew that I could not pass the opportunity to have a bouffant like hers.”
