A controversial giant escalator has been installed on Camlough mountain with some locals calling it an ‘eyesore’.
The massive moving stairs were installed today by Newry, Mourne & Down District Council in order to get more people ‘out and about’.
However we spoke with one Camlough resident Pat McGinn who asked not to be named and he told us:
“I think this is a double-edged sword in many ways. I agree that it will certainly encourage a lot of lazy bastards up the mountain but it sorta takes away from the beauty of the mountain itself.”
Nisa shop-keeper Gerard Hughes said:
“It’s fantastic. It will bring more foot fall into my shop and petrol station. As far as the environmental and aesthetic appearance of the mountain is concerned I couldn’t really give a shite.”
