There is a full scale emergency operation in place at Spelga Dam after a so-called ‘Feg Boat’ began to take on water.
The luxury liner ‘HMS CAMLOUGH’ that operates ‘feg runs’ to and from Kilkeel is thought to be all but sank.
One of the cigarette smugglers told Newry Spud:
“We were just coming into Spelga Dam to drop off 2 tones of Lambert & Butler when the ship began to sink. We’re lucky it’s only the fegs we lost and not the 380 cases of Vodka.”
Sinn Féin Councillor Terry Hearty told Newry Spud:
“This really is a tragedy what happened here today. I’m not too worried about the ship and the boys on it, I’m just wondering how Jonesborough Market is going to cope on Sunday without these much needed cigarettes.”
