The dolphins have returned to Newry canal after social distancing seems to have been taking effect and wildlife is recovering as a consequence.
The White-Beaked dolphin more commonly seen in the Irish Sea has made their way to the canal to bask in the beautiful Newry waterway system.
One ecologist told us:
“Newry Canal is usually filled with rusty shopping carts and shite dumped into it from the local savages in the community. However now giving the social distancing it has been an amazing transformation.
These dolphins who originally lived in the canal systems for many decades have found their way home to Newry. We hope now the council will open the Canal for swimming and public washing.”
