A controversial proposal to erect a new statue in Newry has caused some offence to the climbing community in Newry we can reveal.
The Newry Dolly Parton Appreciation Society has secured permission from the Council to erect a new statue of the country singer in place of the current monument that stands in the city centre that celebrates Banjo Bannon’s climb of Everest.
A Dolly Parton Appreciation Society spokeswoman told Newry Spud:
“While we appreciate Banjo’s contribution to the Newry area through his massive achievement in the climbing world we as Dolly Parton fans think it’s time we had our icon have some of the Newry limelight.”
But a Banjo Bannon fan told us:
“This is unbelievable. Surely the people of Newry see enough big titts walking around Newry without having a statue of a massive set of Diddies of Dolly Parton.”
