An investigation into human trafficking has been launched by Customs & Border officials in the seaside town of Warrenpoint.

Allegations have come to light that some unscrupulous traffickers are putting up to 10 people in a dingy boat to ferry the desperate migrants out of Warrenpoint and over the Carlingford Lough to safety to Omeath county Louth.

One refugee told Newry Spud:

“We just want out of Warrenpoint and this desperate journey over Carlingford Lough is the only way we can do it. The conditions in Warrenpoint have become intolerable and it is now time for us to leave.

After reaching Omeath we plan on getting to Dublin airport and taking the first plane to Syria or Afghanistan. Anywhere but fucking Warrenpoint.”
