Union Flag To Fly Over Newry Town Hall After Recent Vote

Newry Mourne & Down District Council have passed an incredible motion put forward by two DUP Rowallane Councillors William Walker & Harry Harvey to fly the Union Flag from all official buildings throughout the council area every day of the week. The Irish Tricolour will fly only on Saint Patrick’s day for 2 hours during the parade.

In a move that could lead the way for reconciliation for other councils across the north notably Belfast where numerous violent protests have taken place because the Union Flag was removed from the city hall, Newry Councillors have been praised for their tolerance of all cultures.

Newry Spud spoke to Sinn Fein’s Oonagh Hanlon who said:

“It is time for both sides to move forward. With this in mind we thought it quite reasonable to allow for the Union Flag to fly from all official buildings throughout the district.”
