Newry, Mourne & Down District Council has said they will charge Buttercrane Shopping Centre for a £3,500 bill for the cleaning up of 398 carrots and thousands of lumps of coal that where left behind when 398 snowmen gathered in Newry on Thursday to break the world record for the biggest gathering of snowmen in one place it has been revealed.
The event was met with some bemusement in Newry where there hasn’t been any substantial snow fall in quite some time as the snowmen,snow-women and snow-children made their way to the Buttercrane.
A Buttercrane spokesman told Newry Spud:
“We are so thankful for all the snow people coming to Newry from all over the world. A large refrigerated aeroplane from Greenland and the North Pole flew them in to take part in the record breaking attempt. It’s typical of the Council to land us with this bill after the snow people melted leaving thousands of bits of debris shorn all over the city.”
