With the news that Northern Ireland are left without a manager now that Michael O’Neill has taken the reigns at Stoke City, an unlikely Cloughreagh man has been linked to the position.
Brian Sloan who this week was awarded the ‘Prestigious Peoples Award’ at the Irish FA Grassroots Award for decades of service to Brookvale FC is said to be in talks with officials in Donegall Avenue.
Mr Sloan told Newry Spud:
“I got the call last night to come to Belfast to discuss terms. I wasn’t shocked or surprised by the call. To be honest I’m only surprised that it didn’t come years ago.
Talks are at an early stage and I can’t commit to the job at the moment as they are stalling on my demand to have free pints of Smithwick’s in the Windsor Park bar before and after all games. Hopefully we can get over that and I’ll take over.”
