Black Friday has finally arrived and for the people of Bessbrook, not a minute too soon.
While the rest of the nation use Black Friday to indulge in senseless buying and capitalism the people of Bessbrook call it Black Friday for a totally different reason.
The last Friday in every November is used by the village residents to get a massive bath in the nearby pond.
We spoke with Bessbrook’s official spokesman Colm ‘Bootsy’ Fearon who told us:
“It’s a fantastic day for the community to get a wash. With only 14% of the houses in the Brook having running water, this big communal wash ends the stigma of people from the village stinking like minced beef and onions. Even the Camlough folks are coming down to help with the washing duties. Great day for the Parish.”
