Bessbrook football star David ‘Eggy’ Edgar has signed a professional contract with League Two side Stevenage we can reveal.
Edgar who is a bit-part player for Bessbrook United surely gave up all hope of turning professional until Stevenage Chairman Phil Wallace came to Bessbrook to watch the 37 year old striker.
Wallace was so convinced that he had found the new Jamie Vardy and signed Edgar on the spot.
Bessbrook United have sold Edgar for £290,000 plus add-ons and bonuses if Stevenage make it to the play-offs this season.
Bessbrook manager Tommy King told Newry Spud:
“We are delighted for Eggy; he wasn’t in my plans this year to be honest so this approach from Stevenage is perfect for both parties. He has signed a contract for 2 years with a weekly salary if £12,000 so fair play to him and we wish him all the very best in League Two.”
