The community of Bessbrook gathered together last night to remember a pothole that they had in the village for 14 years after it was filled in by local council staff we can reveal.
Bessbrook man Damien Beattie told Newry Spud:
“This particular pothole has been in the village for 14 years now and in some ways it had become a part of our family and we named her Josie. She was as much a part of the family as my dog is so last night’s farewell was emotional to say the least.”
Another Bessbrook resident Mary Edgar told us:
“Josie the pothole will be sadly missed in this village. While others hate potholes we in Bessbrook have become so used to them that we now name them and love them as our own children. Josie will always be in my heart, forever.”
Cries could be heard for miles last night as the memorial service to Josie the pothole came to a close with some embracing each other and weeping uncontrollably.
