There was outrage in Bessbrook chapel last night after local singer Kathleen Moore sang ‘My old man’s a Provo’ instead of ‘Silent Night’ we can reveal.
Ms Moore who Bessbrook natives believe has the ‘voice of an Angel’ broke with tradition and gave a rousing and what some described as a ‘rebellious’ rendition of the old Republican standard.
Philip McGovern who was doing Altar Boy at the mass told Newry Spud:
“Christmas Eve is the night we all look forward to Kathleen’s version of Silent Night. The chapel fell silent and she started singing ‘My old man’s a Provo with a beret and a gun’ I near choked on my Holy Communion. Then Luke Phelan and Brendan Bradley got up and started to sing along, before we knew what was going on the RA were at the door collecting for the Prisoners.”
