The Catholic Church has contacted Newry Spud to confirm that the black stuff on a Camlough man’s forehead was dirt and not ash as was first suspected.

The man Turlough Lewis who cannot be named for legal reasons was seen walking the streets of Camlough today but while he initially blended in with the people who were walking around with black stuff on their heads he was finally identified as an Oliver Plunkett Park native with natural dirt on his head.

Local Priest Fr. Peader O’File told Newry Spud:

“Well, we can now confirm that the man was not wearing holy ash, he was just a Camlough man who was generally unwashed. The fact he was suspected of wearing blessed ash is incomprehensible and must be condemned.”
