The pilot of a light aircraft that flew dangerously low over Mayobridge has been sacked.
Capt. Robin Bird took the light aircraft for a tour of South Down last week. But his low flying caused panic among the locals and he has since been removed from duty.
Capt. Bird told Newry Spud:
“I had two guests over from America and I was flying low so I could show them the local people out and about doing their day-to-day chores. I wasn’t expecting for my plane to be attacked in the way it was, with bow and arrows and spears, nor was I expecting to be sacked.”
A Newry, Mourne & Down Spokesman told us:
“We take this kind of thing very seriously indeed. Low flying can lead to planes alarming the backward locals who have never seen one before.”
