Workers from the Newry branch of Haldane & Fisher building supplies are planning strike action on Tuesday it has emerged.

The workers have asked for a nominal pay rise of 3% to reflect the rise in costs of inflation and even though Haldane & Fisher had increased profits with their last registered accounts in 2014 showing pre-tax profits of £1.6m they offered the workers a rise of only 2.25%.

The owner of the business insists that he understands the feelings of his hard working staff as he spoke to Newry Spud from his Matangi Private Island resort in Fiji.

In between sips of champagne and being hand fed strawberries and cream by a beautiful Fijian model he insisted that he was ‘one of them’ and ‘we are all in it together’.
