There was shock in the close-knit GAA community of Camlough & Bessbrook after Carrickcruppen stalwart Damien Beattie deflected from the club and joined local rivals Shane O’Neill’s we can reveal.
In what is seen as one of the biggest acts of sporting treachery since Mo Johnston joined Rangers from Celtic in 1989 the news has divided the community with some Carrickcruppen members needing hospital treatment for shock with one known case of a slight stroke.
Carrickcruppen spokesman Alan McArdle told Newry Spud:
“The club is still in a state of shock. I personally have had to take a week off work after the news came through. And if he thinks I’ll fix his washing machine again he can fuck off.”
Shane O’Neill’s Chairman Mick Mackin told Newry Spud:
“We have been head hunting Dee for quite some time now. He first came on board on an advisory capacity but now he’s a fully-fledged member of the club until another GAA club come calling I suppose.”
